The Aeromix TWISTER Low-Speed Surface Aerator recently recorded the
highest on-site oxygen transfer rate ever recorded in
Australia for mechanical aeration equipment. A small rural community of Australia recently rebuilt their aging wastewater
treatment plant. Included in this upgrade was a new 13m x 45m 3m deep biological reactor that required surface aerators to
satisfy an oxygen transfer range between a minimum rate 80 kgO2/Hr and a maximum rate of 120 kgO2/Hr. Four (4) 22kW Aeromix
Low-Speed Surface Aerators were installed in the basin and were powered by Variable Frequency Drives (VFD)to achieve the
minimum and maximum conditions.
Three separate on-site oxygen transfer tests were performed with the supervision of the Australia Department of Commerce.
Oxygen transfer testing were conducted to determine the Standard Oxygen Transfer Rate (SOTR) value in clean water using the
procedures identified in the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 1992 Standard for "Measure of Oxygen Transfer in
Clean Water."
The average result of the three oxygen transfer tests was a SOTR of 1.74 kgO2/kW*Hr (2.78 lbsO2/Hp*Hr).
